Given that the requirements for HPC centres differ significantly from those of traditional data centres, this workshop provides a unique forum to exchange experiences with other sites that have similar requirements and challenges. This event covers a number of interesting updates from various HPC sites around Europe and beyond, along with discussions on energy efficient computing, infrastructure technologies and some considerations about future developments in HPC. This year there will be a special focus on the demands that HPC centres make on power grids, and how to discuss these with power grid operators.

Last year’s workshop gathered more than 60 participants together from all over the world with attendees representing computing centres (mostly from Europe, but from the USA and Australia as well), supercomputer vendors and other companies.

This year’s event will take place in the highly popular conference centre Såstaholm, strategically located between Stockholm and Arlanda airport. Såstaholm is well known for its charm, hospitality and excellent food – for more information, see http://sastaholm.se/in-english/.

The workshop starts with a welcome dinner in the evening of Sunday May 10. On Sunday afternoon, buses will be available to bring you from Arlanda Airport to the conference venue. On Monday afternoon workshop participants will have the opportunity to visit two computer centres in Stockholm, PDC and Bahnhof’s Pionen. The PDC Center for High Performance Computing at the KTH Royal Institute of Technology houses the largest HPC system in the Nordic countries. The system is equipped with a local heat re-use system, which is used to heat the campus area. Pionen is a commercial server hall and is using heat re-use to the district heating and cooling networks in Stockholm. The workshop ends on Tuesday May 12 around 16.00 and buses will then take you back to Arlanda Airport.

The workshop is sponsored by the PRACE project and will be followed by a PRACE-internal meeting on the morning of May 13. If you stay for this meeting, dinner will be served on Tuesday evening and lunch will be served on Wednesday before a bus takes you to Arlanda.

The cost of the workshop is 100 Euro if your organization is a PRACE partner, otherwise it is 200 Euro. The workshop fee will be invoiced by the local organizer, KTH. VAT will be added to the cost. The cost for accommodation at Såstaholm is 1275 SEK (around 135 Euro) + VAT per night, including breakfast, which should be paid directly to Såstaholm when you leave.

The registration is now closed.
